Police: Shots fired during robbery of W&M students

williamsburg-police-car-300x131Two William and Mary students were robbed by an armed man near the Shops at High Street Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Williamsburg Police Department.

On Wednesday around 8 p.m., Williamsburg police responded to New Hope Road near the intersection of Richmond Road for a robbery, the release stated.

Upon arrival, the responding officers located two Williams and Mary students, who had fled the area after one shot was fired by the suspect.

According to the release, the victims reported they were approached by a black male about 20 years of age, wearing a dark jacket and pants. The man implied he was armed and told the students to hand over “everything they had.”

After the students complied, the man told them to walk up the road toward Richmond Road. As the students walked toward Richmond Road, the man fired one shot in the air, at which point the students ran away from the scene. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

No one was injured during the incident.
