Williamsburg Volleyball Club will be holding additional tryouts for the 2017 season Saturday, October 8th at Walsingham Academy.
Aspiring players from ages 8 to 14 can try out with their respective age groups during tryouts Saturday.
Saturday’s tryouts will be split among two courts with ages 12 and under on one court and ages 13’s and 14’s on the second court. These tryouts will fill remaining roster positions on our Grassroots (ages 11 & Under), 12 American, 13 American, 14 American and our 14 National teams.
Additionally, there are a couple remaining positions left to fill on their 15 National Team. If you will be 15 during the 2017 season, missed prior tryouts, and have interest in playing on a National Team please come out on Saturday at 12:30.
Registration will begin at Noon on Saturday with tryouts starting at 12:30. Tryouts will last about 2 hours and there will be a Parents Information Meeting during this time to provide families with information about the club, schedules and plans for the 2017 season as well as answer any questions.
The Williamsburg Volleyball Club, which was founded more than 20 years ago, strives to promote the growth and development of junior volleyball players in a positive and enriching environment and to provide players with an avenue to pursue playing volleyball in college.
While the club has seen regional and national success, and had nearly 100 girls in their program last year, the tryouts are inclusive and strive to provide an opportunity for every player to see the court in the upcoming season.
“Our goal is not to cut anyone 14 & younger. We strive to provide every player an opportunity to play on a team,” Joe Ortiz, Director of Williamsburg Volleyball said. “These are more placement tryouts to match a players skill with a team to provide the best fit.”
In the past, the Williamsburg Volleyball Club has fielded multiple teams in various age groups in order to provide more opportunities for less experienced players to see playing time against similarly skilled opponents at a local or regional level.
For Ortiz, creating a comfortable tryout environment and providing opportunities for as many players to play as possible is the club’s priority. “It’s a relaxed environment. Our goal is to help them achieve any goals they have related to volleyball,” he said. “The tryouts aren’t something to be afraid of. Come out and do your best.”
Players interested in trying out for the team should come dressed appropriately and ready to play volleyball. There is a one-time $20 registration tryout fee for ages 13 and up, which can be paid by cash or check up to 30 minutes before tryouts.
