Gun safety is a priority in James City County this fall with the police department hosting several free firearm courses in October, November and December.

The classes will cover the basics of firearm safety, handling, storage and Virginia’s concealed carry laws.

Guns may be the topic of discussion, but they aren’t welcome in the class. Participants are asked to leave personal firearms at home.

The class is one session and is open to the public.  Those interested in signing up for the course can choose between five dates- Oct. 18., Nov. 1 and Dec. 6 between 6:30 and 9 p.m, and Nov. 26 and Dec. 17 from 9-11:30 a.m.

Each class will be held in the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way, Williamsburg, VA 23188.  Those interested can register for the course at the James City County website.

For questions about the course contact Master Office Alan McDowell at 757-603-6026.  Problems with registration will be handled by Police Spokesperson Stephanie Williams, 757-259-5173.
