Gussie Eva Judkins answered the Master’s call and went to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, in her home with her family by her side. Her long and blessed journey began on August 26, 1918, the daughter of the late Lula and John C. Jordan, in York County, Virginia.
In her youth she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was very supportive, the oldest member and the “Mother” of her church. As long as her health allowed her, she faithfully served on the Hospitality Committee and sang with the Senior Choir. She was a loving and kind person and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her blessed memories her daughters, Lois Jones, Jacquelyn Braxton, Marva Velma Dabney and Theresa Piggott; her sons, Louis Carter (Tywana) and Don Carter; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Martha Lomax and Hazel Pierce (John); and other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A celebration of her life will be held 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, in Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Cuffee and the Rev. Morris Randall officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 124 Briar Lane by 11 a.m. on Thursday. Mrs. Judkins may be viewed in Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday.
