Ernest Rufus Washington answered the Master’s called on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, in the Veterans Medical Center, Hampton, Virginia. His life’s journey began on March 3, 1951, the son of the late Beulah and Henry H. Washington, Sr. of Lackey, Virginia.
In his youth, he joined Rising Sun Baptist Church. He proudly served his county in the United States Army. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his brother, Henry H. Washington, Jr.; his niece, Monica Davis; his great-niece; four great-nephews; his special cousins, Robert and Jacqueline Shields; his devoted friend, Shirley Oncu and her son, Mark; many other loving relatives and a host of caring friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life he lived, will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in Rising Sun Baptist Church, Lackey, with the Rev. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment will follow, with Military Honors, in the Masonic Burial Grounds. Family and friends will assemble at 122 York Drive by 12 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Washington may be viewed only in the church on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of his service.
