This Thanksgiving there will be a new 5K in Williamsburg for those wanting to race off anticipated holiday calories.
On Thanksgiving morning, Mettle Events, a Norfolk-based race management company, will be hosting a turkey-themed race in New Town, according to a recent press release.
The company has some experience with Thanksgiving races. For the past eight years Mettle Events has partnered with Blue Talon Bistro to host an annual Turkey Trot through Colonial Williamsburg.
This year, Mettle Events will be hosting the Big Turkey Burn5K and Kids Race, which will chart a new course through New Town. Race event and raffle proceeds will benefit R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA and Williamsburg Meals on Wheels, the release stated.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the many great merchants in New Town with more than 170 shops and restaurants to choose from, a host of service businesses, a charming main street and plenty of free parking for everyone,” Ann Hupp, owner of Mettle Events said in the release. “We’re proud to continue our holiday tradition that provides all that you’ve come to expect from a Mettle Events race; a great fitness and family-oriented event with something for everyone.”
The 5K will start at 8:30 a.m. and the kids’ race will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.
Race morning packet pick up and late registration will be held between the hours of 7 and 8 a.m. on Thursday at Sullivan Square on Center Street in New Town.
An additional registration and pick up period will be held Wednesday between 3 and 7 p.m. at Tidewater Physical Therapy located in New Town, 4125 Ironbound Road #100.
