Eleanor C. Dawson, 90, native of Hawaii

Eleanor C. Dawson, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, with her family by her side.

She was a native of Oahu, Hawaii and a resident of Hampton and Newport News for the past 23 years. Eleanor was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hampton.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving parents, Glen and Ida Simmon; her siblings; and her husband, Arthur.

She is survived by her son, Arthur E. Grundmann, III and wife Janis; daughter, Lenore Lavoie and husband Robert; grandchildren, Lori Ann Girard (Marshall), Danielle Remy (Mike), Rebecca Murphy (Chris), Kendra Callies (Andrew), William Grundmann, Russell Grundmann, and Kathy DeVol; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Jacob, Jonas, Alyssa, Justin, Kaitlin, Gillian, Ashlynn, and Colleen.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hampton. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. If you are able to attend the service, the family requests that: “you do not wear black, but wear bright cheery colors. Thank you!!”

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Eleanor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
