Since 2007, one local nonprofit has welcomed the coming calendar year with a signature fundraising event.
According to a news release, the breast cancer awareness organization Beyond Boobs! will celebrate the launch of the tenth edition of “A Calendar to Live By” at its 10th Annual Pink Carpet Gala on Sept. 17.
The annual calendar features breast cancer survivors and their stories along with a “A Guide to Caring for Yourself” pamphlet offering breast health information, the release stated.
“Our calendar is special because it is so much more than a calendar. It is a guide for healthy living, for breast cancer survivors and everyone else too,” Beyond Boobs! Co-Founder Mary Beth Gibson said in the release.
This year’s edition will feature the work of twelve photographers, one for each model, and also feature remembrances of former calendar models who have been lost to breast cancer, the release stated.
“So much has changed and so much has stayed the same since we first began,” Gibson said in the release. “The original goal was and still is education – to shatter the myth about who gets breast cancer, and it isn’t just older women. We want women to be informed health advocates for themselves. An unintended but now very critical element of the calendar is it helps the models heal and grow through the experience of stepping outside of their comfort zone to help others.”
The Pink Carpet Gala will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Double Tree by Hilton at 50 Kingsmill Rd, Williamsburg. Tickets for the event are $85 per person, with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit; they can be purchased on the Beyond Boobs! website or by calling Vicki at (757) 645-2649 ext 6.
