Portsmouth Christian amassed 400 yards offense, including three touchdown passes by Mykal Marraccini, as the Patriots crushed struggling Hampton Roads Academy 49-21, Friday night at Lester Grace Memorial Field.
Marraccini connected with Brian Adams for a 52-yard TD midway through the second quarter for a 20-0 lead. HRA quarterback Khaleef Jimmison ran for a couple of scores in the second period, sandwiching a 65-yard Marraccini touchdown pass to Da’kendall James.
James, who caught 5 passes for 143 yards, snagged a 26-yard pass from Marraccini as the Patriots scored three times in the second half before Jimmison scampered 21 yards for another Navigator TD.
HRA was playing without last year’s top running back, Devone Humphrey, who was hurt in the team’s opening game a week earlier. Early in the second half, junior Nathan Bagley was injured and didn’t return. He had caught a pair of passes for 55 yards in the first half.
The Navigators (0-2) continued to show they wouldn’t give up after scores. They blocked three extra-point kicks, giving them five in two games.
