Sarah Whitcomb Lieurance, 97, airline stewardess who met her husband on a flight

Sally Lieurance of Williamsburg Landing died peacefully on Sept. 6, 2016. She was born in Hayden, Indiana on March 25, 1919 to John W. and Louise D. Whitcomb. Sally was a registered nurse and an airline stewardess for TWA from 1940 to 1941. She met her husband, Newton A. Lieurance on an airplane over LaSalle, IL. Newt and Sally moved to northern VA where they raised their three children. Sally was a scout leader, volunteer and wonderful friend to many. Newt and Sally eventually retired to Williamsburg Landing in 1985 as the 1st residents to live at the new retirement community.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Newt; her, sister Laura Showalter; and brother, Edgar D. Whitcomb. She is survived by her three children, John R. Lieurance (Chris) of Chichester, England, Newton A. (Andy) Lieurance, Jr. of Waipahu, HI. and Darline Lieurance Rowe of Herndon, VA; her brother, Charles A. Whitcomb of Helena, Montana; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend and companion, Carl Accola of the Landings. The family would especially like to thank all of the caring staff at Williamsburg Landing and Woodhaven who looked after her during her time there.

Interment and a memorial service will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests any donations that are made in her name be made to the Williamsburg Landing Employee Training and Education Fund.
