Mrs. Lillian Sheird Bowman, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016. She was born on May 19,1936, to the late Mary Lucy Tyler and Walter Lee Sheird, in Toano, Virginia.
Lillian retired from the Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools as a Cafeteria Manager, after 38 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Chickahominy Baptist Church. She was married to the late Herbert Bowman, Sr.
Lillian was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She filled the hearts of many with her smile, kind words of wisdom and great sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, watching Westerns and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Lee Sheird, her grandmother, Alice Sheird, and her best friend, Stella Frazier. Lillian leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sons, Herbert Bowman, Jr., Johnnie Bowman (Jeannie) and Bobby Bowman; her daughters, L. Patricia Bowman, Carletha Bowman, Leslie Bowman, Janet Pearson (Louis) and Cindy Bowman; her special daughters, Lenora Meekins (Douglas) and Annette Richardson, of Brooklyn, NY.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Helen Tucker (William) and Cherlyn Ann White; her devoted sister-in-law, Mel Bowman, of Jacksonville, FL.; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, in Chickahominy Baptist Church, Toano, VA. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Bowman may be viewed on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
