The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch and a flash flood watch for local areas including James City and York counties. The arrival of Tropical Storm Hermine has led to event cancellations and the closure of government offices and services.
Here is an updated list of closures:
VDOT has announced that the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry will stop all service at 11:45 a.m. because of high water. The ferry is scheduled to resume service at 5 p.m. For updates on ferry service, motorists can call the ferry hotline at 1-800-VA-FERRY.
Motorists are advised to use the James River Bridge as an alternate route, but should also be aware that high water signs have been posted at the bridge. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel are both operating at reduced 35 mph speed limits because of weather conditions.
According to an alert from York County, the trolley is running on an abbreviated route due to rising water on Water Street. The new route will run from the National Park Service Visitor Center to the Victory Center using the Parkway.
Parks and Recreation
All outdoor pools at Chickahominy Riverfront Park and Upper County Park in James City County will close Saturday due to weather. The City of Williamsburg has announced that Waller Mill Park will be closed Saturday due to weather.
Water Country USA will be closed on Saturday, and Busch Gardens may limit the operations of certain attractions. Both are scheduled to be open Sunday. Saturday night’s fireworks show at Busch Gardens has been postponed until Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
In York County, the Riverfront Landing Piers, New Quarter Park, and the Yorktown Beach picnic area will be closed on Saturday. All York County outdoor youth and adult sports activities scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled. Future closings for York County will be listed here.
James City County’s Movies Under the Stars event has been rescheduled for Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
The York County Public Information Office has announced that the Virginia Symphony Concert, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 15. Yorktown Market Days at the River has been cancelled.
