A 69-year-old man is accused of exposing himself at the Croaker Road branch of the Williamsburg Regional Library.

Roger Wayne Suttler was charged with indecent exposure on Aug. 25 after witnesses told police he sat in a chair and read a pornographic magazine with his genitals hanging out of his shorts, said James City County Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

The area where Suttler was sitting is an open space that houses the library’s teen section, said library spokesman Barry Trott.

“A user reported [the incident] to library staff and they reported it to the police…That’s our process for how we handle it. Staff will address the situation and then call the authorities if necessary,” Trott said, adding that Suttler’s library privileges have been revoked according to the library’s behavior policy.

Medics were called to the scene for a possible health concern, but Suttler was not transported to a hospital, Williams said.

Suttler’s case is scheduled to be heard in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court on Sept. 13.

Adrienne Berard contributed reporting.

Editor’s note: Suttler brought his own pornographic magazine into the library. The library does not provide pornography to its patrons.
