For its 24th consecutive year, the City of Williamsburg has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
According to a news release from the city, its budget satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective presentation. The guidelines were designed to assess how well the city’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
According to GFOA, a total of 1,500 participants received the award for budgets beginning 2015. GFOA is a professional association servicing the needs of approximately 18,700 appointed and elected government officials, the release stated.
For his efforts in preparing the budget, the city issued a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation to Phil Serra, the city’s department of finance director. Williamsburg City Council will recognize the department at the Sept. 8th City Council meeting.
