Charles Roy Probst, 72, passed away on July 23, 2016, in Williamsburg, Va.
He was born July 14, 1944, in Rockingham, N.C., and grew up in San Angelo, Texas, where he graduated as a star basketball player from Lake View High School in 1963.
A dedicated serviceman, Charlie retired from the U.S. Navy as a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for a period of time.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, and friend and genuinely kind and easy going man who enjoyed his life and the people in it. He was adored and well liked by his family and friends.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons, Charles (Maura), Michael (Jessica), C.J. (Maryanne) and Christopher Probst (Diana); and many grandchildren he adored.
The family will greet visitors at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Va. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m.
