Emily Jane Pauls, 61, of Poquoson, Va., passed from this life on July 23, 2016.

She was born Oct. 25, 1954, in Martin County, N.C., where she lived before finally coming home to Poquoson, Va., where she resided for the last 13 years of her life.

Emily was a true North Carolinian, with strong ties to the Albemarle Sound. Her passions in life were her family, the beach, fishing, motorcycling and reading. If the fish were biting, she had a pole in her hand and a line in the water. One of her favorite memories was of fishing with her father in Gardner’s Creek and the “Gut.”

Emily enjoyed time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jason James Stafford; father, James E. Holliday; and sister, Susan Hardison.

She is survived by her husband, W.R. Pauls III of Poquoson, Va.; son, Jesse Hedgepeth (April) of Portsmouth, Va.; mother, Naomi Glynn Holliday of Jamesville, N.C.; stepsons, W.R. Pauls IV (Crystal) of Newport News, Va., and P.J. Pauls (Sarah) of Hampton, Va.; brother, Dennis Holliday and Jackie Knobles of Jamesville, N.C.; sisters, Sharon Arnold (Bill) of Pea Ridge, N.C., Hope Holliday of Wake Forrest, N.C., and Angela Clark (Bobby) of Washington County, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Strong, Kaylah Hedgepeth, and Quinn, Kyle, Colby, Will, and Jaiden of the Pauls family.
