Lorra Ann McMiller, 55, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.
She was born Oct. 27, 1960, in Williamsburg, to the late Arthur and Corrine Holmes. In her youth she joined hands in fellowship with New Quarters Baptist Church and in her later years Faith Tabernacle Christian Center, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. Lorra was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.
Lorra Ann and Joe McMiller Jr were married July 18, 1992, and were blessed with three children. They also opened their home and raised their nephew as their own. “Aunt Ann” as everyone called her, loved her family and friends dearly. Her special relationship with God has blessed her to see her baby daughter graduate and be accepted to Virginia State University.
Lorra was educated in the York County Public Schools and retired from the College of William & Mary after many years of dedicated service.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Holmes; sister, Vanessa McCray; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Thomas Morris; paternal grandparents, Maggie and Andrew Holmes; and four aunts, Elsie Crump, Rosa Holmes, Elizabeth Holmes and Eliza Ashlock.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories her husband, Joe McMiller Jr.; daughters, Kutina Butler (Tony) and Belinda McMiller; her sons, Joseph McMiller and Bruce McMiller; her grandchildren, Xavieon, Joseph Jr., Justice, Jonaisia, Jazlynn, Dominica, Jamon; sisters, Apostle Shelia Simons (Joseph), Linda Johnson, Deloris Holmes, Gwendolyn Tinsley (Reginald), Vinetta Holmes and Ethel Lee (Jeffery); two brothers, Arthur Holmes (Bessie) and Angelo Holmes (Michelle); her sisters-in-law, Aretha McMiller, Mary Robinson (Herman), Angela Cephas; her brothers-in-law, James McCray Sr., Carl McMiller (Gail), Melvin McMiller, Bruce McMiller (Gwen); her aunts, Martha Briggs and Nancy Johnson; a special friend, Ms. Emma; and a host of other loving relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Whiting’s Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Va.
Family and friends will assemble by noon on Saturday, July 30, at 164 Magruder Ave. A celebration of Lorra’s life then will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church, 1397 Penniman Road, Williamsburg, Va., with the Rev. Walter Hudson and Apostle Shelia Simons officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
