Vallee Lane Moore DeLong, 81, of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Va., after a long battle with cancer.
Born, raised and residing in Poquoson all her life, Vallee was an active member of the community. She started her career with Newport News Shipyard as a draftsperson in the Pipe and Drawing Room, working on the USS Enterprise.
Changing careers into the real estate industry, she was an active member of the Real Estate Board and developed three brokerages, the last of these being Bull Island Realty, her successful career lasting more than 42 years.
Vallee’s passion in life was not only her family, but playing her banjo with her band, The Hard Travelin’ Bluegrass Band.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvah and Fannie Moore; husband, Cecil DeLong; and two stepchildren, Danny DeLong and Sandy Conrad. Vallee was loved by many and will be extremely missed.
She is survived by her children, Herb Mapes (Carmen), Tony Mapes, Michael Mapes (Lynn), John DeLong (Angela); stepchildren, Suzie DeLong and John Kim DeLong; stepgrandchildren, Lisa Blevins and Corina Revis; sisters, Gwen Moore, Peteti Walker (Tommie),and Tewathaw Reviea (Bob); brother, Alvah Moore (Audrey); and the loves of her life, her angels, Sydney and Jordyn DeLong, Mikey Mapes and Cailey Greene.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016,at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, Va. A Celebration of her Life, led by Pastor Michael Howard, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va.
