Williamsburg’s first ALDI grocery store will open its doors early next month.

The store, located at the corner of Richmond and Ironbound roads, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Aug. 4.

After the ceremony, the first 100 shoppers will receive a golden ticket, each containing ALDI gift certificates of various amounts, according to a news release. Customers can also tour the store, sample ALDI products and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of ALDI produce, according to the release.

ALDI, a grocery store chain founded in Germany, sells “high-quality grocery items at incredibly low prices,” including organic produce and products free of artificial ingredients and preservatives.

“We are pleased to bring our first store to Williamsburg to help customers get high-quality products at everyday low prices,” said Jeff Baehr, Frederick division vice president for ALDI, in a statement.

“We challenge shoppers to switch from national brands to our high-quality exclusive brands and stretch their dollars without compromising quality. As important as price is, the only way to attract and keep shoppers is to have quality products.”

Compared to other ALDI locations, the store at 1504 Richmond Road will have more room for products, including an expanded cooler section, inviting colors, high ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials, such as energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting, according to the release.

The store will also feature a cart rental system that will require customers to pay a quarter to use a shopping cart. The quarter will be returned to customers when they return their cart.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

The grocery store was built at the site of the former Governor Spottswood Motel. There are two other parcels available there for prospective businesses.
