York County will be hosting two free outdoor summer evening programs at New Quarter Park on Wednesday, July 27.

Moonlight and Music, which will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is a round-robin music jam session led by local musician Joe Duggan.

Audience members are invited to bring instruments to participate in the jam session, or sit back and relax with a lawn chair or blanket. The jam session will be held in the picnic shelter area near the parking lot.

The second evening program, Black Lights and Bugs, will run from 9 to 11 p.m. and will feature Virginia Master Naturalists from the Historic Rivers Chapter, who will teach participants how to identify moths and other nighttime insects.

The event is held in conjunction with National Moth Week.

Local Naturalist Teta Kain will begin the evening with a presentation about common moths visitors can expect to see during the program. Participants should bring a flashlight and camera.
