Heather Bachmann Carter, 49, of Poquoson, Va., passed away July 5, 2016.
Heather was born July 10, 1966, in Fort Dix, N.J., and moved to Poquoson with her family in 1977. After graduating from Poquoson High School in the class of 1984, she attended East Carolina University, where she joined the Alpha Phi sorority, met her future husband, and earned a B.S. degree in elementary education.
Heather was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She loved God and served him faithfully over the years. She delighted in teaching her students about Jesus at Trinity Christian Preschool in Poquoson, where she taught from 2007 to 2016. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, family, and friends.
Heather was preceded in death by her father, Col. Richard E. Bachmann, U.S. Air Force (retired).
She is survived by her best friend and husband, Garry W. Carter Jr.; two sons, Lt. Zachary W. Carter (USAF) and Matthew E. Carter; daughter, Anna Grace; mother, A. Gail Bachmann; brother and sister-in-law Col. Rick and Jeanette Bachmann; and brother and sister-in-law Lt. Col. Steve and Julianna Bachmann.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Northside Christian Church, 1300 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, Va., to be immediately followed by a memorial service led by Pastor Larry Jones. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the Heather Carter Teacher Fund has been established for those wishing to contribute as an expression of remembrance. Donations toward this fund may be made to: Trinity Christian Preschool, 1294 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662.
