Mary Hart Satterwhite, 92, passed from this life on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born March 22, 1924, in West Point, she was the eldest daughter of Dr. Malcolm and Elizabeth Harris. She grew up in West Point and attended Mary Baldwin College. She later worked at Abby Aldridge Art Museum at Colonial Williamsburg.
She has lived in Williamsburg for 54 years and was very active in historical and genealogy organizations. She was also a member of The First Families of Virginia, Jamestown Society, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of The American Revolution, Monday Club, Saint John ‘s Restoration Association and St. Peter’s Restoration Association.
Mary Hart also felt very blessed to be able to travel with Fred on many trips.
Mary Hart was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betsey Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Fred Satterwhite; brother, Jim Harris; and nine nieces and five nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A memorial ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 8400 St. Peters Lane, New Kent. A graveside ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Williamsburg Memorial Cemetery, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg.
