A Blacksburg goal in the 27th minute proved enough for the Bruins to end Tabb’s season Friday afternoon, handing the Tigers a 1-0 loss in the Group 3A semifinals at Liberty University.

For almost the entire match, Blacksburg, which entered the day on a 63-game win streak — that included a pair of state championships — controlled the pace of play in the attacking third and forced Tabb goalkeeper Taylor Carr to make numerous saves.

After giving the Tigers defense fits for the first 26 minutes of play, Blacksburg’s Kyia Williams scored the game’s lone goal from the left side of the pitch.

The Tigers struggled to penetrate a stingy Blacksburg defense that has allowed just two goals this season. With the Bruins holding a 1-0 lead and control of the game, Tabb was unable to battle back and capitalize on rare scoring opportunities.

Tabb ends its season with an 18-3 record.
