Floyd Charles Martin, 91, artist and wood worker who enjoyed quail hunting

Floyd Charles Martin, 91, passed away Sunday, June 5. 2016. He was a lifelong resident of Grafton.

Lloyd joined the Navy at the age of 17, and he retired in August of 1965 after 20 years of faithful service to his country. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Bay of Pigs. After his retirement, he was employed for 15 years as a diagnostics specialist at Thompson Ford, and then served as the manager of H and H Radiator. Floyd was an artist and enjoyed woodworking. He would gladly go quail hunting any chance he got.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Winton and Eula Martin; two brothers, Wardell and Aubrey Martin; and a daughter, Wanda E. Adam.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth C. Martin; two sons, Floyd (Skeet) Martin Jr. (Patricia) and Steve Martin (Bonnie); three daughters, Linda Hendricks (Joe), Kathy Wiggins (Orin) and Debbie Martin (Danny); and 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Edwin Cruz and the nurses and staff at Hampton Roads Specialty Hospital for caring for our father like he was one of their own, and a very special thank you to his grandson, friend and caregiver, Owen Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations for Pediatric Cancer Research be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA, 23606.
