The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man suspected of shooting two people driving toward Interstate 64 on Route 199 at the Mooretown Road overpass Saturday evening.
One victim, the female driver, was shot in the head and airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia hospital in Richmond for treatment of life-threatening injures, YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey said. A male who was seated in the rear passenger seat suffered a gunshot wound to the left eyebrow area of his face and was transported to MCV by medics on the ground. His wounds are not critical, according to Ivey.
At about 8:50 p.m. Saturday a sheriff’s deputy parked at York Fire Station 5 was approached by a vehicle and advised that two of its occupants had been shot during a possible road rage incident, according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Station 5 is on Newman Road, the name of Route 199 beyond its ramps to westbound Interstate 64.
The incident began on Richmond Road near the Route 199 on-ramp.
The suspect’s vehicle was a black Nissan SUV, possibly Murano model, according to the Facebook post. The suspect himself was a white male of unknown age with a “military style haircut” and tattoos. There was also a white female passenger in the front seat of the suspect’s vehicle.
Another vehicle – a burnt orange four-door Jeep Wrangler – was reported to block the victim before the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information pertaining to the incident to please call the crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
“I’m looking for all the help I can get,” Ivey said of the ongoing investigation.
