Donald “Doc” Washburn, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016.

Doc was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and had been a Yorktown resident for the past 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam with the First Air Calvary and the 101st Airborne. He retired in 1977 after 23 years of faithful service to his country.

Following his military retirement, he was employed with the Civil Service at Fort Eustis as an instructor at Officer Candidate School. He retired from that position in 2005 after 20 years of service.

Doc is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Roselyn M. Washburn; three sons, Patrick of Newport News, Timothy of Gloucester and Michael, and his wife, Brandy, of Alabama; and five grandchildren, Vivian, Caroline, Garrett, Donald and William Washburn.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carleton Bakkum and the Rev. Connie Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service in the church social hall.
