Colonial National Historical Park is seeking volunteers to participate Saturday in the 28th-annual “Clean the Bay Day.”
The park, which includes Historic Jamestowne, Yorktown Battlefield and the Colonial Parkway, is partnering up with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Anheuser-Busch to clean up litter and debris along the park’s shores as part of a statewide waterways cleanup initiative.
Shoreline cleanup is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon and will focus particularly on the areas of College Creek, Felgates Creek and Indian Fields Creek along the Colonial Parkway.
” ‘Clean the Bay Day’ is a great way for local residents to do their part for the Colonial Parkway we enjoy every day,” said Jared Markwald, Anheuser-Busch’s coordinator for the event. “With so many people working together, in just a few hours we make a huge difference in cleaning up the rivers and beaches along the parkway.”
Volunteers are advised to wear hard-sole, closed-toe shoes and clothes appropriate for the weather conditions. Work gloves, a hat, water, sunscreen and bug spray also are encouraged
“Clean the Bay Day” is a rain-or-shine event.
