Deaconess Virginia B. Allen, 74, was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She entered into the gates of heaven and her home is now the mansion Christ has prepared for her. Her life’s journey began on March 28, 1942, the daughter of Ada B. Byrd and the late Leon F. Byrd in King and Queen County.
Deaconess Allen was a devoted member of New Zion Baptist Church. She faithfully served her church as a deaconess and was a member of the Senior Choir, the Voices of Zion and the Missionaries.
She leaves to treasure her blessed memories her husband, Edwards H. Allen Sr.; son, Edward H. Allen Jr. (Sandra); mother, Ada B. Byrd; sisters, Rose Washington (William) and Rosette Byrd Turner; brother, William Byrd (Karen); devoted grandson, Marcus Walker (Renee’) and seven other grandchildren; great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and many caring friends.
Deaconess Allen may be viewed from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating the life she lived will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at New Zion Church, 3991 Longhill Road, with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by 10 a.m. Monday at 202 Jolly Pond Road.
