Thelmond Neujean Long, 82, was born on March 13, 1934, in Williamsburg to the late Katie Roberts Ashlock and John Ashlock. Her life’s journey ended on Sunday, May 22, 2016. She was one of 13 children.
Thelmond took on the responsibility of helping to care for her siblings and father at a very young age after the passing of their mother. Thelmond began her family early in life with her husband, Franklin D.R. Long Sr. They became the foundation that built their family.
In addition to her parents, Thelmond was preceded in death by several of her sisters and brothers.
Thelmond leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 57 years, Franklin D.R. Long Sr.; children, Arlene T. Long, Paula D. Williams, Franklin D.R. Long Jr., Eric B. Long, Donald R. Long (Wanda ) and Glenn F. Long (Carletta); eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, each of whom will carry a piece of her in their heart.
Mrs. Long may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 30, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating the life she lived will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald A. Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
