Sandra ‘Sandy’ Panak Newell decided to leave the operating table and walk down the streets of gold with her beloved husband and parents on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

Sandy retired from teaching after almost 30 years of combined public and private school experiences. Her favorite pastime was attending Southern gospel music concerts, preferably the Hoppers. She also enjoyed sports, both participating and observing.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Martin Panak; her mother, Elizabeth Carlton Panak; and her beloved husband of almost 34 years, David Glenn Newell.

She is survived by her sister, Debra Ann Panak.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at New Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church, 80 Groome Road, Newport News. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, in Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point.
