Elizabeth Hancock Pittman, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 13, 2016. She was born October 2, 1923, in Spring Hill, N.C., to Betty Parks and Henry Thomas Hancock.
Elizabeth graduated from Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond and worked at the Farm Security Office and later the Register of Deeds in Halifax, N.C., until the end of World War II. After the war, she married her childhood sweetheart in their hometown of Scotland Neck, N.C., on June 22, 1947, and they set up housekeeping in a home next to their first mercantile business.
Elizabeth will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. After moving to Williamsburg in 1986, she and her husband joined Bruton Parish Church. They enjoyed their volunteer work and spending time with their grandson.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Julian Allen Pittman, Jr.; two sisters, Sara Hancock Landon and Eloise Hancock Flowers; and one brother, Clarence L. Hancock.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Pittman of Williamsburg, and one grandson, Dr. Julian T. Pittman of Destin, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Bruton Parish Church, 331 W. Duke of Gloucester St., Williamsburg, with the burial to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, 809 S. Henry St., Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bruton Parish Church Maintenance Reserve or to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg.
