Jay Curran Cone, 86, of Williamsburg, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016. He grew up in Boyce, Va., and Washington, D.C.
Jay graduated from American University and had a number of jobs that led to the founding of his own business, Cone Instruments. He loved basketball and running, but most of all golf, at which he was quite good. He also loved to work in the yard. When he retired, he moved to Williamsburg to pursue all these pleasures.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorastus Leete Cone and Nellie Elizabeth Cone.
He is survived by his wife, Mish Kara; children, Deb Cone-Halsey (husband, Mark; children, Rachel, Meghan, Abby, Evan), Carol Van Waarde (husband, Piet; children, Pieter, Mallory, Curran), Steve Cone (wife, Jenny; child, Tanner), Rob Grundy (children, Bryan, Ella; Jenny Grundy; and great-grandchild Ananya.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg at Men’s Charity Tennis Inc., which raises money for Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg.
