Lafayette's first-round match in the Conference 18 Boys Tennis tournament was short lived, as the Rams defeated Denbigh 5-0 at home in roughly one hour.

In tournament play, a team match is considered finished when a team wins five individual matches.

For Lafayette, earning five victories proved relatively simple against an overmatched Denbigh team.

The Rams earned their first win roughly 40 minutes into the contest when Griffin Schobel defeated Heng Lin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Moments later, Lafayette's No. 1 singles player Griffin Hurt completed a 6-0, 6-1 win against Donovan Calupitan. Three minutes later, Davis Hatcher took down Kenneth Austin 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

Leading 3-0, Lafayette then got a victory at No. 2 doubles as Jacob Clark finished a 6-1, 6-1 win over Javier Cortes.

At roughly the one-hour mark, Lafayette's No. 4 Jacob Eck completed a difficult 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) match against Dallas Austin, which gave the Rams the necessary five victories to end the match.

Lafayette (6-4) will need another solid performance this week if the Rams want to keep their season alive.

With the win, the Rams will now advance to play a road match against Grafton in the Conference 18 semifinal round on Thursday.
