The York County School Board will have a public hearing to receive input from residents 5:30 p.m. Thursday at York Hall regarding the appointment of an interim board member to the District 4 seat left vacant by the death of Page Minter earlier this year.
The board has received and reviewed résumés from nine candidates in the past week and will vote on an interim appointment at a special meeting May 19.
The names of the candidates have not been released by the School Division.
Residents of District 4 were able to submit letters of interest and résumés to fill the seat.
The Board had originally planned to fill the seat by May 16 to give the new member a week prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting May 23, but the public hearing was scheduled and pushed back the timeline.
May 19 marks the 45-day deadline for the Board to make an appointment, or the option will go to the York-Poquoson Circuit Court if an appointment is not made.
The new appointment will serve in the seat until a candidate is elected in a special election Nov. 8, which coincides with the general election. The person elected in November will fill the seat for the remaining three years of Minter’s four-year term.
The Department of Elections has published information for candidates running in local special elections in November. That information can be found here.
