Grafton pitcher Kayley Cox struck out 11 batters while allowing just three hits as the Clippers cruised past New Kent 8-1 on the road Thursday.

Jessica Sprouse started the scoring for Grafton in the first inning, crossing home plate off a single by Cox. On the next at bat, Shannon Hallingstad smacked an RBI single into left field that put the Clippers up 2-0.

After New Kent posted a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Grafton responded with Ansley Ashby scoring off a Tara Deck double and an RBI double by Becca Hallingstad.

Sprouse smacked an RBI single into right field in the top of the sixth inning. Sprouse’s hit was followed by an RBI single by Deck that gave Grafton a 6-1 lead.

Two more runs in the top of the seventh inning helped Grafton put the game well out of reach.

Grafton (12-1) faces a quick turnaround as the Clippers will visit Lafayette on Friday.
