Girls Tennis Roundup: Jamestown Tops Smithfield

Jamestown got back to its winning ways Wednesday as the Eagles cruised past Smithfield 8-0 at home.

The Eagles were able to take down the Packers in all six singles matches, the toughest showdown coming at No. 4 singles that was decided in three sets.

Two of the three doubles matches went to Jamestown, while rain forced the final doubles match to be suspended early.

Jamestown (9-4) will travel to take on Grafton on Thursday.

Grafton Cruises Past Tabb

Grafton extended its win streak to three matches as the Clippers defeated Tabb 8-1 on the road Wednesday.

The Clippers won five of the six singles matches, with their only loss coming at No. 2 singles.

Doubles proved to be a clean sweep for Grafton, which won at No. 1 and No. 2 easily, but got a tough challenge at No. 3.

Grafton (8-3) will host Jamestown on Thursday, while Tabb (4-6) will try to snap a three-match losing skid at home against Warhill on Thursday.

Warhill Snaps Losing Skid

Warhill snapped a seven-match losing streak on Wednesday as the Lions defeated New Kent 5-4 at home.

The Lions split singles play with the Trojans, meaning Warhill had to win two of the three doubles matches to earn the overall match victory.

In dominating performances, the Lions received wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the match.

Warhill (3-8) will conclude its regular season on the road against Tabb on Thursday.

Bruton Drops Abbreviated Match to Poquoson

Bruton dropped a shortened 5-0 road match against Poquoson on Wednesday.

Due to scheduling constraints, Bruton’s boys and girls had to play at the same time at Poquoson. Doubles play was held first, while singles play came second and could not be finished due to darkness.

Poquoson took all three doubles matches and won two singles matches before the match was suspended.

Bruton (6-6) will continue its season on the road against Lafayette on Thursday.
