The Colonial Parkway will be closed to motor vehicles between Williamsburg and Jamestown from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for the 19th annual Pedal the Parkway event.
Organized by Williamsburg Area Bicyclists as part of Bike Month, Pedal the Parkway is family-friendly bicycle event for cyclists of all ages and abilities to take advantage of an 8-mile stretch of car-free parkway that will run from Williamsburg’s Newport Avenue entrance to Historic Jamestown.
The event is free, open to the public and will take place rain or shine. It is non-competitive, allowing cyclists to start on their own time and go at their own pace.
This year’s event will again feature helmet giveaways for children at the Jamestown end of the Parkway while supplies last, though cyclists of all ages are required to wear a helmet.
More than 1,000 people participated in the event last year and the year before, drawing participants from across the state.
Rest stops at Archer’s Hope and the Jamestown Information Station at Neck of Land will offer refreshments. Limited parking is available at the Jamestown Settlement history museum and at Newport Avenue parking lots in Williamsburg.
