A sacrifice fly by Gabe Simmons scored the game-winning run as York edged Poquoson 6-5 in nine innings on the road Monday.

With the game tied 1-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning, Ryan Jordan hit a sacrifice fly that put the Falcons up 2-1. On the next at bat, Jonathan Moore hit an RBI single to center field that gave York a 3-1 edge.

However, Poquoson responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the game into a ninth inning of play.

In the top of the ninth inning, Jaime Lewis delivered a clutch two-run double to center field. Two at bats later, Simmons drove Lewis home on a sacrifice fly.

The Islanders gave York one final scare in the bottom of the ninth inning, cutting York’s lead to 6-5 before Sean Conners lined out to the shortstop to end the game.
