Outdoor Track and Field: Grafton Girls Shine in Real Deal Classic

Grafton’s girls outdoor track and field team earned second place during the Real Deal High School Classic in Newport News over the weekend.

The Clippers finished with 68.50 points, which was behind only Norfolk Academy’s 105 team points. Warhill’s girls finished in 19th place with 11 points.

Grafton’s 4×800-meter relay team of Meredith Beaver, Alyssa Carroll, Sung Park and Allison Kenney finished first in a time of 10:16.97, a new meet record.

The Clippers had a number of solid finishes in the girls 1,600-meter run. Kira Freedman finished second in 5:16.15, while Beaver and Park came in fourth and fifth, respectively. Carroll rounded out the group in seventh place.

Grafton teammates Maya Caden and Tacoma Mendelsohn finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run.

Samantha Wanderer finished second in the 800-meter run, while teammates Freedman and Kenney earned fifth and sixth, respectively. Caden also earned a ninth-place finish.

A pair of Clippers teammates had solid high jump performances. Rachel Blitt and Kyla Walker tied for seventh place in the girls high jump with a height of 4-6.

For Warhill, Braelyn Lassiter took third place in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.82. Akira Wallace finished 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.73.

In the boys competition, Grafton finished in ninth place with 32 points, while Warhill finished tied for 17th place with eight points.

Grafton’s Miles Owens set a meet record in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:59.76. His teammate Dylan Lorio-MacNamara finished ninth in the event with a time of 2:03.59.

The Grafton 4×800-meter relay team of Dylan Lorio-MacNamara, Brandon Tackling, Curran Atkinson and Miles Owens finished first with a time of 8:29.91, while Warhill’s team of Nick Rogers, Ruben Davila, Hezekiah Hayes and Spencer Conti finished second in a time of 8:41.22.

Noah Owens of Grafton finished fifth in the boys pole vault with a season-best height of 10-6.

Hayes finished 10th in the 1,600-meter run in a season-best 4:47.71, while Conti earned 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.31.
