York earned its biggest win of the season Friday as the Falcons defeated Jamestown 6-3 on the road and ended Jamestown's eight-match win streak.
"This is our toughest match of the year by a long shot," York Coach Steven Fisher said of the win. "They were one of two teams to beat us last year. The girls remembered that and went out and played well this year."
While matches ended at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, all eyes remained on center court as the No. 1 players from Jamestown and York – Anna Walter and Natasha Novak – squared off.
Walter, a defending singles state champion, got all she could handle from York's talented freshman.
After taking the first set 6-4, Walter found herself tied at 2-2 with Novak in the second set. Walter brushed off a service break by Novak and proceeded to win four consecutive games to clinch the match victory.
However, the biggest match of the day game at No. 6 singles according to Fisher.
At No. 6 singles, York's Isabella Mock gutted out a tough three-set victory against Jamestown's Alexis Tisdale that gave the Falcons a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play.
"Being down 5-2 in both sets and being able to pull it out in a third set tiebreak, it was just great," Fisher said of Mock's victory.
With York needing just one doubles victory to clinch the overall win, senior Courtney Jenkins and junior Julie Zhou cruised past Jamestown's Marie-Helena Peeters and Megan Hornick 8-3.
York (7-0) will look to remain unbeaten Tuesday at home against Grafton, while Jamestown (8-4) will try to rebound at home against Smithfield on Tuesday.
