After almost 20 years of serving as Lafayette High’s athletic director, Dan Barner has announced his resignation effective July 1
Barner, who has been Lafayette’s athletic director since 1997, confirmed his resignation in an email sent to WYDaily on Tuesday.
Outside of confirming his resignation as athletic director, Barner declined further comment and calls placed to Lafayette High were not returned.
In 2015, Barner watched Lafayette’s baseball team win its first state championship in program history, which also propelled the Rams to their first Wells Fargo Cup title in school history.
The Wells Fargo Cup is an annual honor that reflects the overall success of the school’s athletic department in any given year.
“Dan Barner is Lafayette High School Athletics,” said Lafayette Boys Soccer Coach Brian Sorrell. “He’s always touted academics just as strongly as athletics. He’s so proud of what all these student-athletes put in and what they get out. I think he’s going to be sorely missed. You won’t find an athletic director more involved in Virginia.”
