James E. Wheeler, 78, of Toano, passed away peacefully at Williamsburg Regional Medical Center on Thursday, April 21, 2016, after a long illness.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Spotsylvania to James C. and Mary Lee Wheeler, who preceded him in death.

He attended VPI and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a partner in EW2 Environmental Inc. Charlotte, N.C., before retiring to Gloucester to live on the water and enjoy the beauty of nature there. He and Barbara moved to Stonehouse Community in Toano in 2006.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Moore Wheeler; three sons, J. Randall Wheeler, and his wife, Starla, of Poquoson, William Christopher Wheeler, and his wife, Sheri, of Londonderry, N.H., and Bryan A. Wheeler, and his wife, Kirsten, of Raleigh, N.C.; adored grandchildren are all Wheelers, Cameron, Kyle, Connor, Austin, Andrew, Cassie, Anna and Calvin; and brother, John M. Wheeler, and his wife, Carol, of Chesterfield.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Stone House Presbyterian Church.
