Warhill earned a historic win on Thursday as the Lions defeated Jamestown 4-2 at home for Warhill’s first win against the Eagles in program history.
The Lions started the game quickly as Andrew Williams found the back of the net within the first five minutes of play.
Jamestown quickly responded as Antonio Gonzalez scored an unassisted goal moments later to tie the game at 1-1.
Daniel Cretney put Warhill back on top in the ninth minute, scoring his first goal of the game to put the Lions up 2-1.
After the early flurry of goals, the game settled down until the 29th minute when Jared Ford beat the keeper to give Warhill a 3-1 halftime lead against Jamestown.
Jamestown cut into Warhill’s lead in the 59th minute as Tanner Herndon scored off an assist from Isaiah McGee.
However, Cretney responded with his second goal of the game in the 68th minute off a pass from Shawn Carnahan.
The Lions were able to keep Jamestown in check for the final 12 minutes of play as they secured one of the biggest wins in program history.
Warhill (5-2-1) will enjoy the fruits of their labor over the weekend as the Lions regroup for a home game against Poquoson on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jamestown (2-3-1) will try to rebound Friday at home against Chancellor.
