Susan V. Sentz, former surgical nurse who taught at UVA

Susan V. Sentz, a loving nurse, sister, aunt and friend, went to heaven on Thursday, April 14, 2016.

Susan graduated from Hampton High, then studied nursing at Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital. Her time there was highlighted by being the lead nurse on a surgical team to separate Siamese twins from Mexico, working with Dr. C. Everette Koop, who became our surgeon general. She later attended UVA to study for her masters and went on to teach there. She eventually worked at Mary Immaculate Hospital and retired in 2007.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest W Sentz; mother, Virginia B. Sentz; and brother, Thomas E. Sentz.

She is survived by her brother, Kendall Sentz (Laraine); sister-in-law, Lynn Sentz; nephews, Thomas Alan (Catrina), David Sentz and Michael B. Sentz (Tisha) of Panama City, Fla.; niece, Kristol Clemens of Grafton; and cousins, James and Charles Stanton and Patty Massenburg (Edgar) of Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Gloucester Point Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UVA Children’s Hospital, Mary Immaculate Hospital, or The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
