Colonial Williamsburg will be rolling out the red carpet Thursday for a special screening of the season three premiere of the AMC drama Turn: Washington’s Spies at the Kimball Theatre.
The Revolutionary War spy thriller based on historian Alexander Rose’s book “Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring” has filmed in Williamsburg’s historic area four times over the past two years – most recently in November, when some of the cast and crew were seen on location at Market Square and the Governor’s Palace.
The scenes filmed in November will appear in the upcoming third season, but with a twist; the Revolutionary City will actually be portrayed as Philadelphia, another hub for Revolutionary activity.
The treasonous defection of Benedict Arnold, portrayed by Owain Yeoman, is the focus of much of season three, and Yeoman was among the actors spotted filming in Colonial Williamsburg during the show’s most recent visit.
Thursday’s free screening will precede the April 25 debut on AMC, and will begin at 7 p.m. The show will be followed by a live question-and-answer session, called “Taking TURNS” with historical experts.
Seating for the screening is limited, and tickets are available now at Colonial Williamsburg ticketing locations. Guests should arrive at the Kimball Theatre before 6:50 p.m., at which time admission will open to standby guests.
“‘TURN: Washington’s Spies’ rivets viewers with its stunning production and storytelling, but most of all because it tells the real stories of Americans who risked everything to establish our nation. These are the stories Colonial Williamsburg tells every day,” President and CEO Mitchell B. Reiss said. “We’re thrilled to welcome fans and neighbors for a sneak peek at the season three premiere, which stars the Revolutionary City and highlights our great partnership with the show, AMC and the Virginia Film Office.”
