A driver died in a single-vehicle crash in York County, police said.

Virginia State Police said someone reported seeing a car fully engulfed in flames on Hampton Highway and Long Green Boulevard in the Tabb area of York County around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, troopers confirmed the driver, 20-year-old Austin Wayne Gleason, died at the scene.

On Sunday night, Gleason was driving a 2003 Pontiac sedan southbound on Hampton Highway when he lost control of the car at the intersection with Long Green Boulevard, police said.

The Pontiac went into the median and struck a pole. Upon striking the pole, the car became fully engulfed in flames.

Gleason died upon impact, police said. No one else was in the vehicle.

Alcohol did not play a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said.
