Route 199 Ramp Expansion Moves Into Next Phase; More Weekday Closures Scheduled is your source for free news and information in Williamsburg, James City & York Counties.

VDOT_lOGO_HeaderFriday marks the start of full ramp closures at the Route 199 westbound off-ramp to Richmond Road and the Richmond Road on-ramp to Route 199 west.

The project, which began in March with weekday daytime closures of just the on-ramp, is part of a road widening initiative aimed at alleviating congestion by constructing exclusive left and right turn lanes on the off-ramp.

Full ramp closures of both the on- and off-ramp will be in effect 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays April 15 through 21. The ramps will be closed to allow for milling and asphalt overlay of the travel lanes and installation of traffic loops.

During this phase of construction, signs will be in place to alert motorists of the ramp closure and detours.

For Route 199 westbound traffic, motorists will continue westbound on Route 199 to the Mooretown Road west exit, continue under the overpass and then use the ramp to Route 199 east to the Richmond Road exit.

Richmond Road westbound traffic will turn right on Lightfoot Road to Mooretown Road and then back to the westbound on-ramp to Route 199.

Richmond Road eastbound traffic will turn left on Lightfoot Road, right on Mooretown Road and back to the westbound on-ramp to Route 199.

Centerville Road traffic will also be detoured by turning left on Richmond Road, then right on Lightfoot Road, then right on Mooretown Road and finally back to the westbound on-ramp to Route 199.
