Preparations are underway for Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg’s fourth annual Hike for Hospice at Governor’s Land, slated for April 23.
This event, which launched in 2013, is one of Hospice House’s major annual fundraisers and features a 2-mile walk in a festive atmosphere.
Event planners anticipate more than 400 hikers will come out for this year’s fundraiser, and nearly $60,000 of the events’ $100,000 goal has already been raised, according to the Hospice House website.
The hike is the fundraiser’s main attraction, allowing participants to reflect on and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones as they stroll through nature.
This year’s hike will also include food, drinks, a silent auction, door prizes and music by D.J. Bobby Hornsby.
Participants are encouraged to walk to celebrate the memory of a loved one, to honor someone or simply to support Hospice House – the area’s only non-medical, volunteer hospice dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those with a terminal illness, as well as supporting those who love them, free of charge.
Hike for Hospice will take place rain or shine on Saturday, April 23. Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. and the hike starts at 2 p.m.
Participants may form teams or walk as individuals, and prizes will be awarded to the team with the largest number of walkers, the team with the most interesting theme or costumes and the team that raises the most money by April 21.
