Dr. Paul Fredrick Phillips, 66, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 31, 2016.

Paul was a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was a former resident of Harrisburg and Yorktown resident for the last 15 years.

He graduated from Wilkes University in 1971 and Pennsylvania State University College Of Medicine in 1976 and completed his residency in psychiatry at Georgetown University in 1979. He was board certified in psychiatry and neurology, forensic psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry.

Paul’s career spanned many years working with the mentally ill. He worked at Harrisburg State Hospital for the majority of his career. While in Harrisburg, he also worked for Harrisburg Mental Health Center, had a private practice in forensic psychiatry, and worked for the Department of Corrections. His career brought him to Virginia, where he worked at Central State Hospital, Riverside Behavioral Center and private practice before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail Klinger Phillips, and his daughter, Jessie Phillips, both of Yorktown; sister, Kay Hozempa of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and a brother, Bernard Phillips of Trinidad, Colo.

A private memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania.
