Funeral arrangements have been announced for state Sen. John Miller, who died Monday of a heart attack.
Miller’s family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. April 7 at Weymouth Funeral Home, located at 12746 Nettles Drive in Newport News.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. April 8 at First Baptist Church Denbigh, located at 3628 Campbell Road in Newport News.
Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, located at 12750 Warwick Boulevard in Newport News.
A former broadcast reporter, Miller had represented District 1, which includes the City of Williamsburg and parts of James City and York counties, since 2008.
In addition to his service as a senator, Miller was a past president of the adult literacy program Peninsula READS and is the only legislator to be honored twice by The Virginia State Reading Association as a “Friend of Literacy.”
Despite his diverse commitments, he made time to officiate games as an umpire for the Warwick Little League, a position he held for 20 years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation online at www.vecf.org/home/about/about-the-vcf.aspx or www.peninsulareads.com.
